The Siril book: where things stand
Almost a year after the French edition came out, and a few months after the English one, it seemed like a good time to take stock of the Siril book: which languages it is available in, where to get it, and answers to a couple of questions that keep coming up.
Three languages today, five by the end of the year #
The book is currently available in:
- French, since December 2025
- English, since May 2026
- Italian, since September 2026
The German and Spanish editions are scheduled for November 2026, so before the end of the year.
Where to find it #
All editions are listed in one place: siril.eu .
Despite the domain name, it is not limited to the European Union. The English edition is handled through siril.us , and that one is not limited to the United States either. In short, wherever you live, start from siril.eu and you will be sent to the right place.
You will not find the book on Amazon, and that is a deliberate choice. It is published by Axilone – Astronomy, an independent publisher, and going through it rather than the big platforms is in line with the spirit of Siril itself: a small, independent project, built by and for the people who use it.
There is no PDF version either, and none is planned. The book was designed from the start as a printed book, and it will stay that way.
The official book #
This is the official book on Siril, written by the project’s lead developer. The explanations do not come from someone who figured out the software from the outside, but from the person who wrote much of the code being described. When the book explains how a tool works, that is how it actually works.
It covers Siril 1.4 as a whole: the complete workflow from raw frames to the final image, but also astrometric registration with distortion correction, Drizzle, mosaics, spectrophotometric color calibration, color management, and more.
“Won’t it be out of date by the next release?” #
This is the question we hear most often, and it is a fair one. Siril evolves quickly, and a printed book cannot be updated.
The book was written with this in mind. It does walk through the processing in Siril step by step, but each step is explained so that you understand what it does and why: why we calibrate, why we stack, how color is calibrated, what stretching really does to the data. These principles do not change from one version to the next. A button may move, a dialog may gain an option, a new tool may appear, but once you understand what you are doing, adapting to those changes takes very little time.
Not only for Siril users #
For the same reason, a large part of the book is about the fundamentals of astrophotography image processing rather than about the software itself. If you use another program, you will find the same concepts there, and the book will still be useful to you.
And the documentation? #
Siril is and will remain free software, and its documentation remains freely available online. The book does not replace it. It is a different format, for those who prefer to learn in a structured way, from start to finish, with something they can keep on the desk next to the computer.
Many thanks to everyone who has already ordered a copy, and to the translators who are making these editions possible.
